Meet our winners –

Sam Currie: Winner of Austswim Teacher of Water Safety 2015 (State Award). Sam has been teaching with The Swim School WA since 2012 and has worked hard to become an integral part of the team. Sam loves teaching children to swim and this really shows in all of his lessons. Sam teaches our learn to swim lessons (levels 1-6) as well as our squad lessons (levels 7-12).  As well as holding his Austswim Teacher of Water Safety qualification, he also holds his Austswim Access and Inclusion qualification which has allowed him to go from strength to strength in teaching children with disabilities. The Swim School WA is very proud of Sam’s achievements so far and look forward to seeing what the future holds.

Award Winners

Daria Kearon: Winner of Austswim Teacher of Adults 2014 (State and National Award). Daria has been with the Swim School WA since 2011 and has fully immersed herself in all of our programs. Daria is a great teacher of adults and has become the face of the culturally and linguistically diverse lessons for women held at The Swim School Merriwa. Daria is also an extremely qualified infant aquatics instructor and was chosen to speak about these lessons at the annual Austswim King Neptune conference in Western Australia in 2015. Daria is qualified to teach children from the age of 4 months – right through to adult level and puts an amazing amount of energy and passion into each lesson she teaches. In 2015 Daria looked beyond swimming lessons and became a qualified Aqua instructor and now runs three of our aqua classes each week. The Swim School WA feel very proud and lucky to have Daria as part of our team!

The Swim School WA: Winner of Austswim Recognised Swim School of the year 2014 (state award). The Swim School WA as a whole has worked hard to encourage water safety among children and adults, and educate them in the different ways to enjoy the water. Each employee holds an current Austswim qualification which has allowed the Swim School WA to hold a silver standard accreditation from Austswim. The Swim School WA has really expanded its reach and developed new programs to ensure the people of Western Australia are receiving the best aquatic education possible. Going above and beyond with staff training by ensuring all staff have their Royal Lifesaving swimming instructor rescue award and Bronze Medallion, helps us to keep up with the changing water safety and rescue trends. Since winning this award we have worked hard to keep improving our lessons and incorporate all aspects of aquatic education into each program. We have reintroduced Junior Lifeguard Club to both the Merriwa and Ocean Reef centre, and are excited to announce our expansion into Wangara in late 2015.
